Kids of all ages -- join the fun every Saturday morning for stories and more! Annie the Terrier, a Reading Education Assistance Dog will join the fun and listen to stories along with her trainer, Connie Cooley, on the first Saturday of each month.
The activities of the Friends of Marshall Public Library are vital to making Marshall Public Library a special part of the community and surrounding area. They meet the first Thursday of every other month. The "Friends" are enthusiastic supporters who work to enrich library resources and services, promote public awareness, and sponsor special events. Friends of Marshall Public Library meet on the 1st Thursday of every other month: January, March, May, July, September, and November. (January's date was moved one week later because of New Year's Day.)
“Coffee Chat” meets at Marshall Public Library on the third Wednesday morning of each month at 10:15. The discussion is all about books with each person present sharing what they have been reading and the types of books they enjoy. It is a good place to be introduced to authors that you have not read and to hear the views of other readers and learning what they find interesting. All types of books are discussed including many of the audio selections that are offered in our library. Come and join us for a cup of coffee and a chat about your favorite books.

A Silly Safari Show is a high-energy and zany theatrical performance. You’ll see all the animals and everything they do. Children and volunteers join them on-stage in games and various fun activities. Everybody is entertained and engaged in the action. Each animal, each game, every interaction teaches something simple about nature and the world around us. You’ll be having so much fun you won’t notice that you’re learning facts about animals!

What? Dogs can’t read! Of course they can’t, but they can be great listeners and their presence creates an inviting and motivating environment. Again this summer, Connie Cooley of rural Marshall will bring her therapy dog, Annie the terrier, to Marshall Public Library on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 PM for several weeks to spend time with children going into 3rd and 4th grades. During “Afternoons with Annie,” the children will each read stories to Annie as she patiently listens for 20-30 minutes. Connie, who has completed the training for this program, says that the Reading Education Assistance Dog program has helped thousands of children discover the joys of books and reading. Titles include “Lincoln as Self-Made Man”, “Lincoln as American Redeemer”, “Lincoln and His Critics”, “Lincoln as Literary Genius”, and “Lincoln: Legacy of the Great Emancipator”. Volunteers from the community will lead each evening’s discussion using provoking questions and additional materials.
Anyone interested in participating in these programs is invited to stop in the library to register and pick up a booklet to read before attending the discussion. Since the supply of books is very limited, each person is encouraged to share the book with another person or return it after reading. Anyone may attend the programs whether or not they have read the materials.
